In october 2006 I accepted a new job at Akaza Research.

Akaza Research provides clinical research informatics solutions based on OpenClinica: the premier open source clinical trials management system.

What does Axeda do ?

Axeda is a company based in Foxboro MA. The company specializes in Device Management. They provide specialized solutions to large enterprises that need to deploy mission-critical systems. Here's a How it Works provided by Axeda.

Axeda Solution

The Axeda solution is a distributed application with components installed on or near your products, secure two-way communication over the Internet, and a full set of applications.

  1. Axeda Agents connect to your product through standard protocols or custom drivers to access the data required to drive your remote services. The Axeda Agent continuously monitors important data you select using business rules to determine what data should be sent, and what constitutes an important event or alert.
  2. Data is sent securely over the Internet using HTTPS with SSL encryption (up to 168-bit) or, optionally, AES encryption (up to 256-bit). Axeda Agents optimize the use of communication bandwidth and allow the system to operate even if the Internet connection is temporarily not available.
  3. The Axeda Enterprise server provides the highly scalable processing center for all of the information flowing through the system. My first job out of college was with WGBH Educational Foundation. I started there as a Developer in the IT department. I spent two years with the organization; it was pretty exciting and eventful.

What Does WGBH do ?

WGBH is a public broadcasting organization based in Boston, MA. In New England GBH has various television channels most notable are WGBH 2 and WGBH 44. GBH can also be found on the radio at WGBH 89.7 and on Cape and Islands NPR stations.
Besides operating the tv and the radio stations GBH produces more of the PBS prime-time and Web lineup than any other station. For the Full line up of programs and furthur information check the website.

What did I do ?

As a member of the Software Development Group I worked on several Java Enterprise projects.

* Participated in designing, architechting and Developing a web application using the following technologies : Struts, Hibernate , JSP , JDBC, Tomcat and MySQL .

* Designed, Architected and Developed a Middleware using the following technologies : Spring Framework , Quartz , Tomcat , JDBC , Informix and Oracle.

* Introduced and Installed Jroller, A Blog Server and Bugzilla, A Bug tracking system.

* I created a MAC Dashboard widget specifically for the gbh TV schedules. Technologies used : JavaScript , AJAX , MAC Widget API. WGBH TV Schedules

Conclusion

Going into this job i didn't know what to expect. Result , I contributed heavily to a web application project, I wrote my first middleware application from ground up and did some other exciting little projects.
